world.
According to the latest UNICEF report, Nigeria is at the top of the list, with the world’s highest number of malnourished children. Out of 146 million children all over the world, Africa alone houses nearly 73% of them, which also includes Nigeria. Precisely, Nigeria has about 6 million malnourished children. Despite Nigeria’s vast agricultural production and its rich heritage of oil, the corrupt rule and mismanagement has pushed the children of the nation into a dark future. African children are among those underprivileged ones who are dying every single day due to countless problems surrounding them: right from AIDS, child labour, child abuse to poverty their life is no better than a living nightmare. Child labour is one of the worst forms of exploitation of a child. Africa has the highest incidence of child labour, while Asia being the most densely populated region has the largest number of child labourers. It has 61 percent of the world’s child labourers. The incidence is recorded by ILO as 41 percent for sub-Saharan Africa, 21 percent for Asia and 17 percent for Latin America. The worst form of child labour is the exploitation of children in sex trade. According to the UNICEF survey around 1 million of the Asia children are lured up in the sex business every year. About 40% of which were sold by the parents and 15% by the relatives. Isn't it scary? That the fact that there are such immoral and unjust going on on the other side of the globe. Yet, we are so comfortable living in our little own bubble? I don't know about you, but it sure shook me pretty hard and forced me to look at the world in an entire different perspective [ not like I do not have a different perspective of the world.. ]. It is really saddening to know about it.Then again, Africa is a little far fetch for us. Let us take a country nearer to us. Laos for example has one of the highest rate of poverty in the South-East Asia, 53%. That is more than half of the country's population. How frightening it is? Next would be Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia. Most of the country's children are suffering from malnutrition and do not have the opportunity to education as they have to work to support the family or do not have the means to do so. Besides that, they normally live in the slumps or remote areas that do not have access to electricity and clean water supply. It is also extremely normal for them to go without food for 2 or 3 days. However, here we are complaining about our education and having not enough allowance for shopping, there they are worrying about their next meal. I learned a great lesson, the lesson of giving Thanks. Hence, ..... One of this year's next year's resolution is to be.... MORE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT I HAVE. Yes. I WILL be more grateful. I will not complain about my life when they are others who are far more worse off than me. I thank God for giving loving and doting parents. They nag and scold is for my own good - it's their way of showing their concern for me; they provide me with my comfort in life too. I thank God for providing me with parents who care for my future - by providing me with my education. I thank God for giving me friends that care for me - I absolutely adore and LOVE my friends. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to enjoy life as it is now. I thank God for giving up his life for us - He will not be forgotten. Will you be giving thanks? p.s: I am a happy and contented person. My mummy is willing to help me sponsor a child under World Vision. With only RM50 a month, you get to help a kid! obviously, I will have a deduction of RM50 each month starting Jan'08, but at least I know it's for a good cause [ it's not going to Zara or Topshop anymore... ]. THE girl
its me I dreamed a dream in time gone by. When hope was high and life worth living. I dreamed that love would never die. I dreamed that God would be forgiving. Then I was young and unafraid. And dreams were made and used and wasted. There was no ransom to be paid. No song unsung, no wine untasted. byes(:
